Flaming River has introduced a rack & pinion cradle steering system for the 1968 to 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle and El Camino, plus other sister GM Intermediate cars of the same period – Pontiac GTO/LeMans, Oldsmobile 4-4-2/Cutlass and Buick GS/Skylark, plus the GMC Conquistador.
The system is designed for cars powered by small or big block Chevrolet engines and is available in a power steering version. The rack & pinion cradle steering system is carefully designed to maintain the full stock steering radius.
The Chevelle rack & pinion cradle systems uses a travel bar system to attach the rack gear to the tie rod ends. The system locates the tie rods closer to the original operating plane.
The Chevelle rack & pinion cradles are precision jig-welded and install in the stock steering system mounting holes. No drilling, cutting or welding is required.
The Chevelle/El Camino rack & pinion cradle system uses the original steering column or is available with a new Flaming River floor shift column (paintable mill finish or polished). Each system includes all required Grade 8 mounting hardware, universal joints and shafting. The unit with a column includes the column mounting hardware and electrical connector. The power steering version includes the power steering pump and the remote power steering fluid reservoir. |
